Settlement & Integration
The Settlement and Integration Division of the Afghanistan Canada Council (ACC) is committed to helping newcomers from Afghanistan and other conflict-affected regions transition smoothly into Canadian society. We recognize the challenges of starting over in a new country. Our mission is to ensure that every newcomer feels welcome, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Orientation and Information Sessions: We offer multilingual orientation sessions on essential topics such as Canadian laws and rights, the healthcare system, educational pathways, public transportation, financial literacy, and available social services.
Housing and Employment Support
Our team assists individuals and families in finding temporary and long-term housing and provides guidance on navigating the rental market. We also offer job search support, resume development, interview coaching, and referrals to training programs and potential employers.
Access to Basic Needs: We connect newcomers with vital community resources, such as furniture banks, food banks, clothing donations, and other essential services, to help establish a safe and stable start in Canada.
Public Benefits Navigation: We support clients in understanding and applying for public programs such as the OHIP, Canada Child Benefit, Ontario Works, and other provincial and federal supports.
Mentorship Programs: Our mentorship initiatives match newcomers with Afghan Canadian families and professionals who can offer support, friendship, and cultural orientation. These relationships foster a sense of belonging and confidence in navigating daily life in Canada.
Support for Refugees and Family Reunification: We provide guidance to refugee claimants and families undergoing reunification. Our support includes assistance with documentation, interpretation, and referrals to legal aid and immigration services.
Programs for Youth and Women: We offer programs designed specifically to meet the needs of youth and women, including peer support groups, leadership training, and access to culturally responsive mental health resources for youth and women.
At ACC, we believe that integration is a journey, and we are here to walk alongside newcomers every step of the way.
